Why we love Thursdays

March 7, 2008

(Pour avoir le même chez vous: Nathalie et Laurent, ferme de la Fertais, 02 99 73 63 94).

Thursdays are the day we go to the farm on the other side of the lake to get vegetables and bread. The vegetables are a community supported agriculture program, an organic farmer (Les jardins de la Douenne) deliver a bunch of boxes to the farm at La Fertais where Nathalie and Laurent raise cows, pigs, grow apples, and bake great bread every Thursday. So we get a box of vegetables, with sometimes a jar of homemade jam, and three loaves of bread: whole wheat chocolate chip, and hazelnut. Karin & Co. told us about the farm and it’s now one of our favorite things about where we live. We love Thursdays because you can tear off a chunk of warm chocolate bread and eat it as you’re driving home around the lake. In the summertime we’ll be able to ride our bikes across the fields to get there.
